Eagle River Real Estate Information

Eagle River is one of the relatively large suburban communities found in the outskirts of Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska by far. Eagle River is located within the metropolitan boundaries of Anchorage, although if it was classified separately from Anchorage, it would be one of the largest cities in the state. Eagle River has a population of approximately twenty two thousand residents, a figure that swells to about thirty thousand when the Chugiak settlements in the general area of Eagle River are included. Eagle River takes its name, not surprisingly, from the beautiful, flowing body of water between Chugach State Park and Fort Richardson. Despite its generally cold weather, Eagle River still offers beautiful views of the Chugach Mountains and the Anchorage skyline.

One of the biggest annual events in the state of Alaska is the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, and the town of Eagle River is lucky enough to host the first checkpoint in this internationally famous competition. Eagle River is home to a number of important shops and shopping centers, including Safeway, Wal-Mart, and Fred Meyer in addition to plenty of restaurants and fast food joints. There are a number of cultural and social activities in the town of Eagle River, including the Highland Games, the Bear Paw Festival, and the Fourth of July celebration. The educational needs of Eagle River are met by a number of public and private institutions, including the Anchorage School District, the University of Alaska, a Bible College, and plenty of home schools.

Alaskans take a great pride in their local sports teams, and Eagle River is no exception, as skiing, skating, hockey, biking, football, soccer, baseball, basketball, and swimming are all popular. Eagle River was first settled in the first half of the twentieth century, and was granted its first post office in the year nineteen sixty one. Eagle River is home to the Eagle River Nature Center, which boasts a state campground, a hiking trail, and plenty of opportunities for fishing and rafting. Other points of interest in and around Eagle River include the Eklutna Village Historical Park, Thunderbird Falls, and South Fork Falls.
